Wild's Ferguson decides on Dartmouth

October 5, 2010

The Wenatchee Wild has announced that defenseman Geoff Ferguson has committed to Dartmouth College (ECAC) for the 2011-12 season.

The 6-foot-2, 189-pound Ferguson, an 18-year-old from Hanwell, New Brunswick, has played in seven games with the Wild this season. He recorded his first assist with the club on Saturday in the Wild’s 7-4 victory over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Ferguson is a plus-1 on the season.

“It feels really good,” Ferguson said of his decision to commit to Dartmouth, an Ivy League school. “I really wanted to go there for the academics and the reputation the school has.”

Under the direction of 14-year head coach Bob Gaudet, the Big Green was recently selected to finish in sixth place in the 2010-11 ECAC Hockey coaches and media preseason polls after finishing last season with an overall record of 10-19-3.

“Geoff is highly competitive and has a very good skill set,” said Wild head coach Paul Baxter. “He also has strong leadership skills.”

Ferguson, who is undecided on a major, is the third current Wild player to make a collegiate commitment for next fall. Forwards Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) and Blake Saylor (Centennial, Colo.) are both committed to the Air Force Academy (Atlantic Hockey).
