St. Louis defenseman Wilhelm gets call to the NAHL
January 19, 2017
The St. Louis Jr. Blues, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that defenseman Trevor Wilhelm has been called up by the NAHL’s Corpus Christi IceRays for this weekend’s series at the Amarillo Bulls.
A rookie from St. Louis, Missouri, Wilhelm has made a massive impact this year as the Jr. Blues have cemented their status as one of the league’s teams to beat. He has 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists), which leads the Jr. Blues’ defensemen in scoring and places him 16th overall amongst all NA3HL blue-liners. Eight of those points have come on the man advantage, showing his importance to the Jr. Blues’ potent power-play.
This will not be Wilhelm’s first interaction with the men from South Texas, as he was tendered by the IceRays for the 2017-18 season back in October.
Jr. Blues head coach Chris Flaugher commented on the move: “Trevor’s the kind of guy who always does the little things right, whether it’s on the ice, in the gym or in the community. This is a great opportunity for him to show [IceRays coach] Brad Flynn the kind of player he is in a game setting. We wish him nothing but the best of luck this weekend.”
Wilhelm is the third Jr. Blues player this season to earn a weekend promotion to the NAHL, joining goaltender Hunter Smith (Springfield Jr. Blues) and forward Sam Maddox (Topeka RoadRunners). In addition to these call-ups, forwards Ivan Galaguzov and Daniil Ovchinnikov spent a week mid-season training with Springfield.
