New Ulm defenseman Ayd signs NAHL tender
January 8, 2019

The New Ulm Steel of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Sam Ayd has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Chippewa Steel in the NAHL’s Midwest Division.
Ayd, 19, is in his first season playing junior hockey in the NA3HL. The 6’4/200 lbs. native of Mahtomedi, Minnesota, is currently 3rd in team scoring with 27 points (7 goals, 20 assists) in 30 games played.
Ayd was the West Division Star of the Week back on November 28th when he recorded five points in two games during the week.
He is the first player Steel this season to sign an NAHL tender
Prior to playing for the Steel in the NA3HL, Ayd played two seasons of varsity hockey in Minnesota for Mahtomedi High School where he had 27 points in 41 career games.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
