Willmar forward Sweetland signs NAHL tender

May 7, 2021

The Willmar WarHawks of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Mike Sweetland has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the St. Cloud Norsemen of the NAHL’s Central Division.

Sweetland, 18, just completed his first season of junior hockey in the NA3HL with the WarHawks. The 5’9/165 lbs. native of Stillwater, MN, was 3rd in team scoring during the 2020-21 season, recording 28 points in 23 regular season games.

Sweetland had 14 goals, which tied for the team lead, and added 14 assists. He also put up two points in two playoff games.

Prior to playing junior hockey in the NA3HL, Sweetland played high school hockey for Stillwater High School.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which includes one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2021 NAHL Draft.
