Sunday Wrap-Up: Capitals, Generals stay unbeaten with sweeps

Atlanta 9 @ Mid Cities 3 – Anthony O’Neil had four goals and an assist and Harrison Flaacke had a hat trick and an assist as the Capitals cruised to a three-game weekend road sweep of the Stars thanks to a 9-3 win on Sunday. Mid Cities jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the 1st period with three straight goals from Grant Hanifen for the natural hat-trick. However, the lead would be short-lived as the Capitals came back to score four goals later in the 1st period to take a 4-3 lead as Flaacke netted his hat-trick and O’Neil scored his first. O’Neil would add one more goal in the 2nd period and two more in the 3rd period. Robbie Aranos and Tyler Barnhart also scored for Atlanta. Damian Vandanacker made 26 saves in the win, while Garrett Johnson made 66 saves in the loss.

Milwaukee 6 @ St. Louis 4 – The Power picked up their first win of the season thanks to goals from six different players in a 6-4 win in St. Louis. The Jr. Blues led 2-0 early on goals from Brady Burke and Ken Henning. The Power the rattled off five straight goals from Rocco Cicirello, Zach Wolverton, Tyler Kowalchuck, Connor O’Neal, and Max Erstad. The Jr. Blues tried to make a game of things with 4rd period goals from Jacob Heuerman and another from Burke, but a late shorthanded goal from Riley Planey secured the win. Adam Prokop made 24 saves in the win, while Ian Zeumer made 31 saves in the loss.

Long Beach 2 @ Northeast 12 – The Generals moved to 5-0 with a convincing 12-2 win over the Sharks on Sunday. Both Caiden Hess and Michael Arsenault had hat-tricks in the win. The game was over early as the Generals jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first period, which included two goals from Hess, one from Arsenault and others from Braeden Kennedy, Nolan Merulli and Matthew Nuzzolilo. In the 2nd period the Generals added three more goals as Kennedy netted his second of the game and Nolan Zotter and Dalton White scored. In the 3rd period, Hess and Arsenault completed their hat-tricks. Long Beach had two goals from Henry Slager and Colin McPherren. D’Mar McCoy made 15 saves in the win, while Christopher Hintz took the loss with 12 saves.

Austin 2 @ TX RoadRunners 6 – The RoadRunners took the rubber match of a three-game set with the Ice Bats thanks to a 6-2 win on Sunday. Kristoffer Svensson and Kyle Portlock had two goals apiece in the win. The RoadRunners led 3-2 after one period as they got goals from Svensson, JT Brugaletta, and Tyler Love, while the Ice Bats netted goals from Maddox Hoff and Sebastian Hale. The RoadRunners pulled away later in the game with a pair of goals from Portlock and another from Svensson. Jimmy Packee made 8 saves in the win, while Gary Wiles made 75 saves in the loss.
