The Mason City Toros are thrilled to announce that defenseman Miles Berg has committed to play NCAA DIII Hockey at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.
Miles Berg played 50 games this season for the Toros and finished tied for the team lead in scoring with 14 goals and a team high 35 assists for 49 points. His scoring output made him the NA3HL’s second highest scoring defenseman.
The Lynwood, WA, native came to Mason City this year after two seasons in El Paso split between the Rhino’s NAHL and NA3HL teams, compiling 41 NAHL games and 20 NA3HL games in Texas. Berg’s NA3HL career totals amount to 16 goals and 42 assists for 58 points in 70 games. During the season, Berg was selected as the NA3HL’s Defenseman of the Month for the month of February and represented the Mason City Toros at the 2024 NA3HL Top Prospects Showcase, recording a goal in the two games he played in St. Peter’s, Missouri.
“To say we are excited for Miles’s commitment to Eau Claire is a huge understatement”, said Toro’s Head Coach Mark Hicks. “We were truly blessed that he chose to play his final junior season in Mason City and he did not disappoint. He led us on the ice, in the weight room, and was a big voice and presence in the locker room. Being a former Blugold player and coach I know the high level of hockey it is and also what a great school it is as well. Coach (Matt) Loen is getting a great player and young man who I know will succeed both in the classroom and on the ice.”
The UW Eau-Claire Blugolds play in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and have claimed a national championship in 2013. Berg joins former North Iowa Bulls Nolan Grier and Max Gutjahr on the 2024-25 Blugold’s roster.
The Toros want to congratulate Miles Berg on his collegiate commitment and wish him the best of luck as he continues his hockey career!
