The Waldorf Warriors D1 Men's Hockey Team is excited to announce the addition of Matthew Loney for the 2024-25 season. Head Coach Mike Heitkamp announced the signing of Loney, a native of Highland, California. Loney comes to Waldorf after a season and a half with the El Paso Rhinos of the NA3HL.
Loney, a 6'0" goalie, has an extensive background and brings a lot of experience to the Warriors' goaltending staff. Matthew comes from the prestigious Culver Military Academy where he played his high school career before moving on to junior hockey. Loney joined the Rhinos during the 2022-23 season and continued on to play a total of 21 NA3HL games. Between two seasons, the ‘03 netminder posted an overall record of 12-7-1, maintaining a save percentage of .910 and a goals against average of 2.46.
"We couldn't be happier to have Matthew joining us in the fall," said Waldorf head coach Mike Heitkamp. "He's coming in with a lot of experience and a proven track record of being a strong goalie for his team. His coaches in El Paso talked very highly of him as a player and a person and his character really stood out to us in the recruiting process as someone that exemplifies what it means to be a Warrior. We're looking forward to Matthew coming in and competing every day in practice and games to give us the edge as we fight to pursue a national tournament opportunity."
