Saturday Scores: Flint wins big over Cleveland
Flint Junior Generals 7 @ Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks 2: The Junior Generals scored five goals in the second period to break a first period tie and beat the defending division champs in a 7-2 game. Cleveland, who won the division by a large margin last season, took the game into the locker room tied 2-2 after a late first period goal by Tyler Pritt but the Junior Generals came out looking like a different team in the second. Flints attack was spread out in the second as five different Generals scored goals and Jacob Lainesse added two assists to blow the game wide open. Boxscore
North Iowa Bulls 4 @ Granite City Lumberjacks 1: Matt Kroska, a 2012 NA3HL Top Prospect selection, dished out three assists as his North Iowa Bulls beat the home town Granit City Lumberjacks 4-1. Kroska’s teammate Richie Marens added two goals to pace the Bulls offense. Granite City goalie was solid all night stopping 30 shots but the North Iowa offense used the man advantage, scoring two power play goals, to beat the hot goalie. Boxscore
Chicago Jr. Bulldogs 1 @ Peoria Mustangs 9: The Peoria Mustangs netted nine unanswered goals including seven in the second period to defeat the Chicago Jr. Bulldogs by a score of 9-1. Brennan Anderson and Chance Homerin led the way for the Mustangs earning four points each. The Bulldogs lone goal was scored by Luke Morin to take the lead in the early second period before the Mustangs offensive outburst. Boxscore
Minnesota Flying Aces 2 @ Breezy Point North Stars 4: The Breezy Point North Stars took advantage of being on the man advantage scoring three power play goals on their way to a 4-2 win over the visiting Minnesota Flying Aces. Kyle Eberwein who scored a goal and added two assists led the North Stars special teams attack. The Flying Aces came out of the gates early scoring two goals early in the first period. Blair Seitz led the Minnesota players with a goal and an assist. Boxscore
Toledo Cherokee 4 @ Pittsburgh Vengeance 2: Tyler Zalecki picked up where he left off last season as his Toledo Cherokee defeated the Pittsburgh Vengeance 4-2. The Cherokees leading scorer from a year ago picked up a goal and an assist in the win. The Cherokee scored two third period goals to pull away for the win. Pittsburgh goalie Jason Kumpfmiller was outstanding in defeat turning away 37 of 40 shots. Boxscore
Cincinnati Swords 3 @ Metro Jets 4: The Metro Jets scored the game winner with just under two minutes left to defeat the Cincinnati Swords 4-3. Zach MacKay scored on the man advantage at 18:32 of the third period to put the Jets on top for good. Just seconds earlier, Nikita Korotkov broke in for a shorthanded goal to time the game at three before MacKay netted the game-winning goal. Jets Goalie Kameron Limburg saved 28 of 31 shots for his second win of the season. Boxscore
Twin City Steel 5 @ St. Louis Jr. Blues 6: Alex Klaesner scored the game-winning goal on the power play with just under two minutes left as the St. Louis Jr. Blues defeated the Twin City Steel 6-5. The Steel took a penalty at the 16:59 mark of the third period and Klaesner used that advantage to get the win for the Jr. Blues. Twin City forward Tony Arias scored a hat trick during the game rallying his team just short of the victory. Boxscore
