Weekend Wrap-Up: Mountain Cats stun Cherokee

Toledo Cherokee 2 @ Michigan Mountain Cats 4: Kade Morrison started and ended the scoring for the Michigan Mountain Cats as they defeated the visiting Toledo Cherokee 4-2. Walker Bass had 43 saves for the Mountain Cats stonewalling the Cherokee all game. Tyler Zalecki added to his team leading point total with a goal and an assist bringing his season total to 10. The Mountain Cats were dangerous on both sides of the special teams game scoring both a power play and shorthanded tally. Boxscore

Cincinnati Swords 5 @ Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks 4: The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks scored two goals with an extra attacker but it still wasn’t enough to defeat the Cincinnati Swords. The Swords jumped out to an early lead after three first period goals coming from Thomas Clayton, Sean Kilpatrick and Timmy Weisgerber. Devin Fracassi added a goal and an assist to the Swords offensive effort. The Lumberjacks gave a great comeback effort but were just short after two late goals with an extra attacker from Nick Balavich and Kyle Gonzales. Boxscore

St. Louis Jr. Blues 4 @ Wisconsin Whalers 3 (OT): The St. Louis Jr. Blues escaped Wisconsin with a sweep gaining both wins in the extra frame. Andrew Kovacich scored at 2:37 on the Jr. Blues 54th shot of the night to defeat the hometown Whalers. Michal Marcinek had his best outing of the season for the Whalers in defeat stopping 50 Jr. Blues shots. The overtime hero Kovacich added an assist on an earlier goal from Lucas Stewart. Boxscore

Peoria Mustangs 1 @ Flint Junior Generals 4: Andres Franke stopped 38 shots and Ryan Burr tallied two assists to lead the Flint Junior Generals to a 4-1 victory over the Peoria Mustangs. Nathan Chasteen scored the only goal for Peoria to open up the third period but Cam Jorgensen added his fourth goal of the weekend into the empty net to ice the game for the Junior Generals. Battle Creek Revolution 0 @ Pittsburgh Vengeance 6: Oskar Thorsen scored two goals and added an assist and for the second night in a row the Pittsburgh Vengeance shut out the Battle Creek Revolution, this time by the score of 6-0. The Vengeance got off to a slow start not tallying in the first period but got hot on the special teams as they scored two power play goals in the second period. The Vengeance ended the night with a success rate of 75% on the power play. Battle Creek goaltender Tyler Babinski had his third straight start of 30+ saves in the defeat. Boxscore
