Ice Dogs, Wild combine camp efforts

April 7, 2009

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs and the Wenatchee Wild have announced that the two West Division teams will combine efforts for their pre-draft camp scheduled for May 14-17 in Prior Lake, Minn.

It marks the first time that two NAHL teams have combined tryout camps.

“We decided to do this in an effort to give players the opportunity to get seen by two teams at one camp just days before the league draft (scheduled for Wednesday, May 20),” said Wild associate head coach Ryan McKelvie.  “We're expecting a number of Division I and III college coaches to be in attendance.”

“We're excited to work with Wenatchee on this effort,” said Ice Dogs head coach Josh Hauge.  “This is a great opportunity for all the participating recruits to try out for both teams at once.”

Fairbanks and Wenatchee finished first and second, respectively, in the West Division standings this season. The Wild finished first in the NAHL in total and average attendance, with the Ice Dogs placing second.

The two teams have a combined nine players from this year committed to Division I programs for next season and beyond.

Fairbanks has established a longstanding tradition of excellence in the NAHL, while Wenatchee has already proven itself as an elite program in its first season of play.

Both teams boast experienced coaching staffs that are committed to the development of their players.

Registration information for the tryout camp can be found at NAHL.com or on either team's Web sites: FairbanksIceDogs.com and WenatcheeWild.com.
