Flint , Peoria win on Day 1 of NA3HL Showcase
Flint Junior Generals 4 @ Chicago Junior Bulldogs 3 (SO): The Chicago Junior Bulldogs took the Flint Junior Generals 20-game win streak to the brink but it was Flint in the end extending the streak winning in a shootout 4-3. The opening period was filled with goals as both teams cashed in for two including an unassisted shorthanded marker for Chicago forward Ryan Maksimovic. Justin Fisher put home a goal to open the period to give Flint the early 2nd period lead but the Bulldogs tied the game up late in the middle frame as Matt Kostopoulos beat Nathan Klebe to tie the game at 3. The teams went scoreless in the final frame and the game went to overtime. In an exciting overtime neither team found the back of the net and it was off to a shootout. Matt Kostopoulos scored in the 3rd round of the shootout and immediately Austin Fletcher beat Michael Krch to bring the shootout to sudden death. Jacob Lainesse finished the game off and extended the Flint winning streak as he deked the goalie Krch and opened the NA3HL Showcase with a victory for the Junior Generals. Boxscore
Peoria Mustangs 4 @ Toledo Cherokee 2: The Peoria Mustangs got three straight goals before the Cherokee could find the net and led the entire game as they picked up their 10th straight victory. Nathan Chasteen beat Toledo goaltender Clay Horvath just under five minutes into the first period to give the Mustangs the early one goal lead. The Cherokee and Mustangs both lit the lamp twice in the middle frame which included a penalty shot goal from Tyler Zalecki when he put the puck just over Peoria net minder Marc Hayton’s right shoulder. Both goalies were solid in the final frame until Andrew Scofield fired a shot thru traffic that beat Horvath over the top of the pad to give the Mustangs the insurance goal they were looking for.
